When it rains - mail server fix it pours - seems there was a glitch with one of the mail server daemons, made some adjustments, things are flowing again.

Things looking to be back to normal. Main uplink back, some random DSL outages cleared. All in all a lot of watching digital paint dry for problems we can't fix.

Partial network outage Seems one of our main Toronto uplinks is having issues, we're routing around it... but there still be some reachability issues.

All Done / All Clear We didn't get to do the power changes we wanted to, so that'll have to happen in the future, but everything seems to be okay. We've also deployed our client-facing BGP, so there'll be some nice new magic there.

Any issues you have, please let us know!

Things running normally Everyone transferred to generator power, there were some issues in other suites, but they were resolved before the big power disconnects happened.

We will be upgrading the routers and moving some power-cords around in a few hours.

Diesel-Day Saturday April 18th I swung by the Toronto datacenter this evening and grabbed a copy of the MOP for tomorrow's maintenance, appears that the work starts at 0600 and the fun starts at 0700, but security officers casually mentioned that they tried to push things back an hour... I'm getting other conflicting reports on the timing, but what's going to happen is going to happen.

We have plans to reboot a few machines and routers, so odds are if there aren't any power interruptions, there's still going to be some brief outages. I'll most likely be updating the Official Server North Twitter Feed most frequently (and whining about the day in general on my personal feed) and updating the blog with major updates.

Tell the CRTC what you think about traffic management (Hint: We think it's bad)

The CRTC is soliciting public response on the matter of Internet traffic management... that'd be things like Rogers & Bell throttling your traffic (even if you're a Server North customer, it affects you.)

Ars Technica has some analysis on this too.

Office of the Privacy Commission also has a (very Web 2.0) site about DPI.

Quick Conficker Worm/Virus checker This page here has a nice/simple/easy/fast/free/uninvasive way to do a quick check if you're infected with a Conficker worm. Mac & Linux/BSD users need not apply.

April 1st media-frenzy aside, Conficker only seems to spread at this point - but you don't want it anyway.

If you're afflicted, contact a reputable computer store in your locale, or get in touch with us.
